Color Correction

CONFETTI CROWN.SEMONE WIGGINS.WHAT THE HECK IS A COLOR CORRECTION AND WHY DOES IT COST SO MUCH $$?

At our salon we get asked to make some miracles happen with hair.  and, we LOVE it!  It’s important to understand when you are in for a big job and what those costs are going to be up front. This is the main reason your stylist will do a consultation and ask you questions before jumping into a color service.

It can appear super easy when you watch people do their own hair at home and post it on TikTok or the gram, or to not understand why we can’t just make your dark hair a little lighter in an hour…we get it!  That’s why in this blog, Semone Wiggins, a + year veteran of the industry shares what exactly is a color correction service, what is involved in a color correction, + why the heck are they so expensive.

WHAT IS IT?

So, what exactly is a color correction?  Semone says, “believe it or not, it’s exactly what it sounds like: it is when we need to fix the undesirable results of previous color. This can be from coloring hair for years at home with box dye, or maybe from an inexperienced stylist who doesn’t know the proper steps to transition your current color to a new one.” No matter how you got there, we at CONFETTI CROWN.a salon+spa never pass judgement, We are here to support you and your hair dreams and we will offer a clear path of when+how you are going to be able to get to those goals.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

Some corrections can be done in 1 or 2 visits (some lasting into double digit hours!) and others will require several steps and several visits to complete over time.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

Color correction usually will involve several steps that involve, “either toning out unwanted undertones, removing color, lightening your hair, or going darker and filling in missing color tones.” No 2 color corrections are the same and that the best option for 1 person’s hair isn’t going to be the best option for another person’s hair. This is because of a few things: the desired result, the current condition of your hair, the history of chemical services on your hair, your starting point, + last, but certainly not least, would be the budget you have to work with.

Bleach: bleach is needed to ‘strip’ your hair. This method is used to lighten hair or to remove other pigment out of the hair.

Toning: removes brassiness or can be used to shift the undesired tone for a color or blonding service.

Color removers: these tend to be the most gentle way to remove color by taking away the build up of a color caused by frequent + repeated dyeing. The science of color removers is amazing and the best thing about them is their ability to remove artificial color pigment while still leaving your own natural hair color without drying out your hairs.

HOW MUCH IS THIS GOING TO COST?

Color corrections will be the most expensive color service offered in a salon. This is due to the many steps required and it’s likely to take up your stylists entire day- so rather than having several clients in their chair that day, it’s just you.  Be sure you stay hydrated, take breaks and order in some snacks to stay fresh during this process. We require a consultation before any color correction service and based on product costs, services being done, time being spent, your stylist will present you with an estimated cost of your color correction that day.

ANYTHING ELSE?

CONFETTI color correction consultations are required + are free. You can book this online or by calling the salon. Lastly, typically a 50% deposit of the estimated costs for the color correction will be required at the time of booking. This is done to protect the stylist+salon who is booking out an entire day for you.”
